In this blog we take a brief foray into the very beginning of a business startup with thoughts on decisions, validation, risk and selling! There is no easy answer to this. What is evident from helping over 1,200 small businesses over the past 5 years through Rebel Business School Aotearoa is the need for decisions. The market will always be the market. At Rebel we opened a co-working space in a pandemic! Crazy I know and the jury is still out, but, here we are. One thing about being an entrepreneur is that, as a general rule, risk is a bi-product of starting the businesses. However, there are tools available and one of those is bizeziapp.com. It was designed specifically for business startups and existing small businesses. Essentially it gamifies the front of a business plan. It has another significant outcome though. The game itself is self educational. You can't help but have a better grip on your business model because of this app. Sure, there is business risk, but as any business advisor or bank will tell you, it is possible to minimise the risk by validating your business idea first and importantly, know your business model. If you can do this and you are approaching an investor, the bank for a loan, a possible business partner or supplier, you will be able to articulate with confidence more about your business, your customer and your fiancial projections. We love this app. This blog is not to provide every solution but rather to encourage anyone with a business idea to research, validate and sell. Wait, what's that you say, sell!!! Yes its true; a litmus test for your business idea is that a customer will put their money on the table to invest in your product or service. That one sale could be the tipping point. That one sale will answer questions galore. Answers that will help you to get started, improve and grow your business. Also, remember to think about how you build a sustainable business, one that will still be operating in five years time. When I brought Rebel Business School to Aotearoa New Zealand, it had to carve out its own niche in the business ecosystem. While I researched and validated like crazy, it was the first sale that got the ball rolling. Now our clients are City, Regional and local councils, cenral government and economic development agencies. Rebel has run 30 events in communities across Aotearoa and the vision to transform lives and communities through small business is alive and well. We will deliver more on business for you during 2022. Really good stuff like dispelling myths, more on confidence, pitching your business but for now - Make a start - yes thats it. Kia kaha (Be strong).
